Jeollanam-do announced that it took swift initial quarantine measures after an additional case of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed at a Hanwoo cattle farm in Yeongam on the 23rd.
The newly affected farm is located about 100 meters away from the site of the initial outbreak and is raising 31 Hanwoo cattle.
Jeollanam-do plans to promptly cull one positive animal and any cattle showing symptoms based on clinical tests, and has strengthened access control and disinfection at the farm.
Park Hyunsik, Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food at Jeollanam-do, stated, "Although all cities and counties completed vaccination by the 22nd, it takes at least seven days for sufficient immunity to develop. We ask livestock farmers to thoroughly disinfect both inside and outside the barns at least twice a day, strictly control access, and immediately report any suspected cases in accordance with quarantine guidelines."
As of the 24th, a total of 14 cases of foot-and-mouth disease have occurred: 13 in Yeongam and 1 in Muan.
