"Accelerating Efforts to Secure National Funding"
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Jung Kimyung) announced on the 24th that it held a report meeting on the discovery of new projects for national funding support in 2026 in the city hall situation room on the 21st, to ensure the smooth implementation of key projects under the 8th popularly elected administration.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor Jung Kimyung, with the vice mayor, department heads, and division directors in attendance. They focused on discussing strategies to secure 586.3 billion KRW in national funding for a total of 121 projects, including 55 new projects and 66 ongoing projects, in line with government policies.

Among the new projects, the industrial and research & development (R&D) sector includes the establishment of a digital-based resource circulation pilot industrial complex and the development and demonstration of carbon capture and utilization technology for small and medium-sized ships to achieve carbon neutrality. These projects aim to expand infrastructure to overcome crises and strengthen competitiveness in the national industrial complex.
In the culture and tourism sector, projects include the creation of the Yi Sunshin Marine Culture Convergence Center and the development of a patriotic culture and tourism platform around Jinnamgwan. In the water supply and sewage sector, projects include the conversion of water supply systems for island areas and the expansion of public sewage treatment facilities in Yulchon-myeon. Projects related to the Island Expo include the 2026 South Coast Coastal Cruise Pilot Project and support for the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Island Flight Demonstration Project.
In addition, projects such as the Jeolla Line high-speed railway construction, the establishment of the Yeosu Industrial Complex CCUS Cluster, and the promotion of the CCU Mega Project, which are currently undergoing or scheduled for preliminary feasibility studies, will be pursued to ensure their inclusion in the 2026 budget through economic analysis (B/C).
Mayor Jung Kimyung stated, "Securing national funding is more important than anything else for the rapid implementation of large-scale projects, but as the burden on the city budget increases accordingly, it is a time that requires selection and concentration. Please make every effort to ensure that the projects prepared for overcoming the industrial complex crisis and stabilizing the local economy are reflected in the government budget."
Meanwhile, starting with this report meeting, Yeosu City plans to actively explain the validity of its projects by visiting South Jeolla Province and central government ministries in line with the government budget formulation schedule, and to mobilize its human networks, including local National Assembly members, to secure national funding in a timely manner.
