Osan-si "Gyeonggi-do Comprehensive Sports Competition Hosting Battle Begins in Earnest"

Expansion of Local Sports Infrastructure Expected
Lee Gwonjae, Mayor: "Full Commitment for a Successful Bid"

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province has officially entered the bidding race to host the '2027~2028 Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Sports Festival,' the largest event in Gyeonggi Province. The Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Sports Festival is a sports event featuring over 20 disciplines, with around 10,000 elite athletes from 31 cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province participating.

This will be the first time in 37 years since Osan's elevation to city status that it has bid to host the event. Lee Gwon-jae, Mayor of Osan, stated, "Hosting the event will be a meaningful opportunity to showcase Osan's future and potential ahead of its 40th anniversary as a city," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure a successful bid."

Earlier, on the 21st, the Gyeonggi Province Sports Festival on-site inspection team conducted a field inspection to evaluate and review key facilities and infrastructure in the Osan area. During the inspection, Kang Hyun-do, Deputy Mayor of Osan, personally delivered a presentation explaining ▲the background and necessity of the bid ▲current status of Osan City ▲and the event operation plan.

The city plans to expand its insufficient sports infrastructure through hosting the event. With the recent full-scale move-in to Segyo 2 District and the upcoming completion of the Segyo 3 District and Unamtteul AI City urban development projects, it has been determined that existing facilities alone will not meet the infrastructure demands of citizens.

A city official said, "Hosting the event will be a major momentum for expanding Osan City's sports infrastructure," adding, "We expect it will greatly contribute not only to improving citizens' health but also to revitalizing the local economy and developing the tourism industry."
