Hongseong County Conducts National Heritage Safety Inspections to Prepare for Spring Wildfires

Checking Fire Extinguisher Placement
at 35 Wooden and Other National Heritage Sites

Hongseong County Conducts National Heritage Safety Inspections to Prepare for Spring Wildfires Hongseong County will conduct a national heritage safety inspection to ensure thorough protection of cultural heritage.

In response to the recent series of wildfires across the country causing significant damage, Hongseong County in Chungnam has taken steps to protect national heritage sites within its jurisdiction that are vulnerable to fire.

On the 24th, Hongseong County announced that it would conduct a comprehensive safety inspection of 35 national heritage sites, including Gosansa, an important wooden cultural heritage site particularly susceptible to fire, out of a total of 84 cultural heritage sites in the county, such as nationally, provincially, and locally designated cultural properties.

This inspection aims to prevent wildfire damage to national heritage sites, especially wooden cultural properties, during the spring season, to avert losses from fire, and to minimize damage through swift response.

To this end, the county will focus on checking the proper operation and expiration dates of fire extinguishers installed at the 35 major national heritage sites, as well as the functionality and normal operation of various fire safety facilities, and will carry out necessary maintenance and repairs.

Prior to this, the county inspected the durability of fire extinguishers and fire safety facilities at cultural heritage sites, replaced 10 expired fire extinguishers, newly installed 8 fire extinguishers at the Chung Hyo Yeol facility, a local cultural heritage site, and completed repairs of aging fire safety facilities at the Gyulseong Nongyo Training Center.

Kim Taegi, head of the Culture and Tourism Division, stated, "National heritage sites possess profound historical value, and a single fire can cause irreparable damage. This comprehensive safety inspection is an important process to ensure the protection of national heritage, and we plan to further strengthen protection through quarterly and ad-hoc inspections and maintenance of fire safety facilities."

Meanwhile, the county will also implement fire safety management services and conduct joint fire drills with the Hongseong Fire Station for five major wooden national heritage sites?Gosansa, Hongju Eupseong, Hongju Uisachong, Saun Gotak, and Noeun-ri Gotak?as well as four provincially designated sites and other historical facilities, to ensure thorough safety inspections.
