Jangsu-gun Holds Practical Training for 'Eastern Region Rental Vertical Farm'

Support for Young Farmers... Ensuring Stable Farming Activities

Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province recently conducted two on-site training sessions for young farmers who are about to move into the 'Eastern Region Lease-type Vertical Farm.'

According to the county on the 24th, the on-site training was organized to enhance the understanding of vertical farm operations among the incoming farmers and to support stable farming activities. This training focused on romaine seed sowing and transplant management, centering on practical training for hydroponic cultivation methods.

The 'Eastern Region Lease-type Vertical Farm' is a state-of-the-art agricultural facility that artificially controls the growing environment within artificial structures without using soil. Its main feature is the ability to stably cultivate leafy vegetables regardless of weather or seasonal changes.

The vertical farm, located at 233 Chimgok-ri, Gaenam-myeon, Jangsu County, consists of two above-ground floors, a building area of 1,740 square meters, three cultivation rooms, and shared spaces. It is especially significant as the 'first public vertical farm.'

Through an open recruitment process in January, the county selected three teams of young farmers (a total of six people) residing in the county, who are scheduled to begin moving in starting in May. Additionally, before moving in, a total of five theoretical and practical training sessions will be held, followed by eight days of on-site training after moving in to help them gain farming experience.

County Governor Choi Hunsik stated, "Vertical farms can ensure a stable supply of agricultural products in response to climate change and are expected to become a new model for eco-friendly agriculture. We will do our best to ensure that the county's lease-type vertical farm plays an innovative role in the future of agriculture."
