1.2km Riverside Deck Road with Night Lighting Opens
"We Aim to Develop It into a Local Tourism Resource"
The bicycle path along the Yeongsangang River is becoming even safer and more pleasant.
The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 24th that it will hold an opening ceremony on the 26th after completing improvement works in the Manbongcheon area, which had been pointed out as a safety-vulnerable section of the Yeongsangang National Bicycle Path. The event will be attended by about 80 people, including officials from Naju City, local residents, and cycling clubs.
The Manbongcheon section has long been considered dangerous due to its combined automobile-bicycle road, steep slopes, and sharp curves, leading to continuous calls for improvement. After consultation with the local government, the Yeongsangang Office newly constructed a riverside deck road along the Yeongsangang River, 3.2 meters wide and 1.2 kilometers long. In addition, nighttime lighting, rest areas, and photo zones have been installed to enhance both safety and convenience.
This year as well, the Yeongsangang Office plans to invest 12.2 billion KRW to strengthen maintenance of the Yeongsangang bicycle path, including resurfacing 44 kilometers of the path, upgrading safety facilities, and creating rest areas and photo zones.
Director Kim Youngwoo stated, "We will strive to create an environment where bicycles can be used safely and comfortably," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the Yeongsangang bicycle path becomes established as a local tourism resource."
