Yongin City Promotes Organizational Restructuring to Establish Metropolitan-Level Administrative System

On the 24th, Yongin City announced that it plans to submit an organizational restructuring proposal, which includes the establishment of 2 bureaus, 3 divisions, and 1 neighborhood office, to the city council’s extraordinary session scheduled for next month. The city explained that this restructuring aims to respond to rapid urban changes and successfully carry out large-scale projects such as semiconductors.

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin said, "As Yongin is on the path to becoming a metropolitan city, various administrative demands are increasing," adding, "We are promoting this organizational restructuring to provide administrative services more effectively and to strengthen communication with citizens and the media."

According to the restructuring plan, the city will first establish the Autonomous Administration Bureau in line with the expanded authority of local governments. The Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau will be divided into the Education, Youth, and Women Bureau and the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau to enhance specialized capabilities.

The city is also planning to create a 'Media Officer' position to strengthen communication with citizens and the media, and a 'Disaster Response Officer' position for rapid initial response and recovery in case of disasters. For Yurim-dong, which has surpassed a population of 50,000, the plan includes dividing it into Yurim 1-dong and Yurim 2-dong. Previously, the city amended the 'Yongin City Legal Dong and Ri Names and Jurisdiction Ordinance' to facilitate the division of Yurim-dong.

Even after separating tasks, the city intends to establish a collaborative system among departments to ensure continuity and efficiency for projects implemented before the restructuring and policies to be carried out in the future.

Through this organizational restructuring, the city plans to reorganize the detailed departments of the Planning and Coordination Office into a system responsible for policy, budget, personnel, and legal affairs functions.
