Ulju-gun Achieves Record-High Employment Rate of 65.7% Last Year

Ulsan Ulju-gun achieved a record-high employment rate of 65.7% last year.


According to the "2024 Regional Employment Survey (Second Half)" conducted by Statistics Korea, the employment rate in Ulju-gun last year was 65.7%, up 2.0% (3.1%P) from the previous year's 63.7%. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate dropped to 2.9%, a decrease of 1.1% (27.5%P) from 4.0% the previous year, indicating a clear improvement in the job market.


The total number of employed people in Ulju-gun was 118,000, an increase of 3,000 compared to the same period last year. In particular, the employment rate for those aged 15 to 64 was 65.7%, surpassing the OECD average of 64.1% and marking the highest employment rate ever recorded.


By age group, the employment rate for those aged 65 and over decreased by 0.4% (1.08%P) from 37.3% in 2023 to 36.9% last year, but all other age groups saw an increase compared to the same period the previous year.


Notably, the employment rate for the middle-aged group (30-49 years) showed the largest increase at 3.2%. The youth (15-29 years) employment rate was 32.2%, while the employment rate for those aged 50 to 64 was 72.3%.


The economic activity participation rate rose by 0.5%P to 61.3% compared to the previous year. The economically inactive population was 74,000, a decrease of about 3,000 from the previous year, and the number of employed people was 118,000, indicating that about 3,000 people successfully found employment.


There was also a marked improvement in the quality of employment. The number of regular workers increased from 69,000 in 2023 to 74,000 last year. The number of employment insurance subscribers also rose from 75,000 in 2023 to 77,000 last year, suggesting qualitative improvements in employment as well.


An Ulju-gun official stated, "We will continue our efforts to create quality jobs by implementing effective job policies so that all Ulju-gun residents can have stable employment."


To overcome the economic crisis and restore the local economy, Ulju-gun is pursuing various job creation projects with the goal of "creating 14,000 regional jobs by 2025." These include expanding job opportunities for vulnerable groups such as seniors, people with disabilities, and youth; advancing job centers in response to changes in the industrial structure; and expanding support for small and medium-sized enterprises to create and maintain employment.
