Power Outage at 20 Transmission Towers by KEPCO Amid Uiseong Wildfire Spread Yonhap News

To prevent damage caused by the wildfire spreading in Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk, authorities have suspended power supply to some transmission towers near the wildfire site.

According to the Korea Forest Service and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Gyeongbuk Headquarters on the 23rd, authorities stopped power supply to 20 out of 55 transmission towers on the An-gye Substation to Uiseong Substation section around 1:40 p.m. on the first day of the wildfire, the 22nd.

Among the 20 transmission towers where this measure was taken, 17 were already affected by the wildfire, and the wildfire was ongoing about 200 meters away from the remaining 3 towers.

Authorities took this action because if the wildfire passes through the transmission towers, abnormal high-voltage currents could occur, potentially damaging the substations.

The KEPCO Gyeongbuk Headquarters stated, "We inspected the transmission towers expected to suffer the most damage, and the situation does not appear to be severe," adding, "Under the current conditions, we expect to be able to resume power supply to the affected transmission towers in the future."
