Deokcheon Branch Invites Over 400 Senior Citizens from Senior Centers
Distributes Food and Gift Packages Worth 10 Million KRW
The Deokcheon Branch of the North District Chapter of the JaeBusan Honam Association (President: Kim Yongkwon) held a Tteokguk sharing event for senior citizens on the 22nd at Deokcheon Bokjip (CEO: Seo Insook).
Over 400 seniors residing in Deokcheon 1, 2, and 3-dong were invited to the event.
More than 50 members of the Deokcheon Branch and over 20 members' wives personally prepared meals such as Tteokguk and Bulgogi, as well as daily necessities gift packages filled with ramen, soy milk, bread, and more.
The invited seniors were mostly in their seventies and regularly attend 23 local senior centers, including Namsanjeong Senior Center and Nakdong Senior Center. For those with mobility difficulties, three shuttle buses were operated to bring them to the event and assist them in returning home.
This sharing event was made possible by 5 million KRW collected by around 50 Deokcheon Branch members and sponsorship goods worth another 5 million KRW provided by Bumin Hospital, Deokcheon Bokjip, and others.
Kim Yongkwon, President of the Deokcheon Branch, said, "Most of the members participating in today's event have been living and settling in Busan for over 20 years. Busan has warmly embraced us as a second hometown, easing the hardships and loneliness of living away from home. I believe that serving the local community is a way to give back and return a little of what we have received from Busan, which has been the foundation of our lives."
He added, "I would like to express my gratitude to the members who prepared today's event with passion and to the wives who supported them behind the scenes. As members of a community, we will continue to practice sharing and set an example by spreading a culture of respecting the elderly."
The Deokcheon Branch of the North District Chapter of the JaeBusan Honam Association was founded in 1981 with about 50 members and has continued various social contribution activities such as senior parties and volunteer work.
The Deokcheon Branch of the Busan Honam Association Bukgu Chapter is holding a rice cake soup sharing event inviting seniors and taking a commemorative photo.
