Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 21st that the budget for the service to designate the Uijeongbu City Urban Innovation Zone has been allocated by the city council, and the establishment of the spatial restructuring plan is expected to accelerate.
The Urban Innovation Zone is a 'white zone' with no restrictions on density or usage, allowing flexible development.
This service includes ▲designation of the Urban Innovation Zone ▲establishment of the spatial restructuring plan ▲analysis of the economic and traffic impact on surrounding areas ▲and changes to higher-level plans. Based on this, the city plans to prepare a systematic strategy in consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Gyeonggi Province to designate Yeokjeon Neighborhood Park as an Urban Innovation Zone.
In particular, the city will closely examine plans for overcrowded and complex development and infrastructure expansion so that Uijeongbu Station can grow into a transportation and economic hub in the northern metropolitan area. Additionally, by actively reflecting residents' opinions, the city aims to prevent potential issues during the development process in advance and derive the optimal development plan to revitalize the local economy and strengthen self-sufficient functions.
In the future, the city plans to promote the designation of the Urban Innovation Zone after deliberation by the central and Gyeonggi Province Urban Planning Committees.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “The allocation of this service budget will be an important turning point for enhancing Uijeongbu's urban competitiveness,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that the city can be reborn as a sustainable future city along with the designation of the Urban Innovation Zone.”
