The 13 detailed projects of the Bay Valley Megacity, jointly promoted by South Chungcheong Province and Gyeonggi Province, will be fully launched.

On the 21st, South Chungcheong Province held a joint briefing session on the "South Chungcheong-Gyeonggi Bay Valley Win-Win Cooperation Project" with Gyeonggi Province at the Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center.

This meeting was the first working-level session prepared since last year’s Bay Valley Vision Proclamation Ceremony was canceled due to the Hwaseong factory incident.

During the meeting, the two parties shared progress on 13 projects in four areas that are being jointly promoted out of the 50 detailed Bay Valley projects and discussed the future direction of these initiatives.

Bay Valley is a large-scale regional project to foster the Asan Bay area, spanning northern South Chungcheong and southern Gyeonggi, as a global economic hub leading Korea’s fourth industrial revolution in sectors such as semiconductors and the hydrogen economy.

South Chungcheong Province and Gyeonggi Province are cooperating on projects such as establishing the Bay Valley circular railway network, connecting the Seohae Line to the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line (Seohae Line KTX), extending the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) Line C from Gyeonggi to South Chungcheong, constructing the Second Seohae Bridge, developing hinterland complexes at Pyeongtaek and Dangjin Ports, and creating a hydrogen supply hub in the central region.

They are also collaborating on joint research for clean hydrogen production technology, fostering the global advanced future vehicle industry, establishing marina tourism hubs, developing marine leisure content and hosting events, developing the Bay Valley Tour Pass, jointly managing marine waste, and revitalizing the Bay Valley employment and startup ecosystem.

The Bay Valley circular railway opened in November last year, and the Seohae Line KTX connection project has passed the preliminary feasibility study.

The GTX-C extension from Gyeonggi to South Chungcheong has been proposed for inclusion in the 5th National Rail Network Construction Plan, and efforts are underway to include the Second Seohae Bridge project in the 7th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan.

As part of the joint research on clean hydrogen production technology, the Green Hydrogen Water Electrolysis Center was completed and began operation in October last year in Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin.

The Clean Hydrogen Test, Evaluation, and Demonstration Support Center is under construction in the Pyeongtaek Brain City General Industrial Complex and is scheduled for completion next year.

To establish marina tourism hubs, South Chungcheong and Gyeonggi are working to install small-scale mooring facilities on seven islands and ports.

The Bay Valley Tour Pass, aimed at revitalizing tourism, is expected to go on sale soon.

Last year, South Chungcheong and Gyeonggi jointly collected and transported marine waste and have been creating youth spaces to revitalize the employment and startup ecosystem.

Going forward, the two institutions plan to form a working-level task force to discuss methods of cooperation and fully implement the 13 projects.

Jeon Hyungsik, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of South Chungcheong Province, said, "Let us continue to move toward our shared goal of mutual development for both regions through ongoing communication and cooperation."

Kim Sungjoong, Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, responded, "Let us create new opportunities and achieve sustainable development through mutual trust and cooperation between the two regions."
