The meeting was attended by Mayor Kim Dong-geun, Jeong Mi-young, Chair of the Administrative Welfare Committee of the Uijeongbu City Council, Councilor Jo Se-il, resident representatives, related officials, external experts, and transportation company representatives. They shared the interim results of the research project and explored ways to reorganize the city’s bus system.
Specifically, they discussed ▲ route efficiency improvement and railway linkage plans ▲ consideration of transitioning to a public bus management system ▲ establishment of a public transportation-linked transfer system ▲ and bus operation efficiency improvement measures through the introduction of new transportation modes such as Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT).
In particular, since the city’s financial burden related to buses is increasing by more than 14 billion KRW annually, they had in-depth discussions on ways to efficiently utilize the limited budget while maximizing user satisfaction.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “This research project is an important process to strengthen the living core area of Uijeongbu in response to changes in the transportation environment such as the transition to a public bus management system in Gyeonggi Province, changes in transportation infrastructure including railways and roads, and new town development. We will prepare effective public transportation policies by actively reflecting not only the research team’s analysis but also the problems and improvement directions felt on the ground.”
This project is scheduled to be completed by July 2025, and after collecting citizens’ opinions through public hearings and briefings, the final reorganization plan will be confirmed through expert consultation.
