On the 21st, Kang Gijung, Mayor of Gwangju, met with Hwang Jeonggeun, Director of the National Assembly Library, at City Hall to discuss the construction of the National Assembly Gwangju Library (National Assembly Library Gwangju Branch).

During the meeting, they discussed the necessity of establishing a branch of the National Assembly Library in Gwangju, the representative city of the Honam region, to enhance the nation's knowledge and information capabilities; to promote balanced regional development in knowledge and culture; and to create an environment where everyone can conveniently access public records produced through legislative activities by decentralizing and preserving such records regionally. The discussion focused on the need for the National Assembly Gwangju Library.

Mayor Kang stated, "There are high expectations among citizens for the construction of the National Assembly Gwangju Library, which carries great symbolic significance. If it is built as a complex cultural space that combines educational and exhibition functions, specialized in culture and democracy like the National Assembly Busan Library, the public image of the National Assembly will change significantly, and we can achieve balanced national development in knowledge and culture at the same time."

In response, Director Hwang said, "I am well aware of the citizens' interest and the efforts of Gwangju City regarding the National Assembly Library Gwangju Branch. I will do my best to ensure successful results in the construction of the National Assembly Gwangju Library."

Meanwhile, Gwangju City plans to continue active cooperation with the National Assembly for the construction of the National Assembly Gwangju Library.
