On the 21st, Gijang-gun in Busan wrapped up the “80th Arbor Day Tree Planting” event along the Ilgwangsan Baramnuri-gil trail and officially launched the “Million Azalea Blossoms Campaign.”
The “Million Azalea Blossoms Campaign” is a policy project to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the restoration of Gijang-gun, aiming to spread the county flower, the azalea, throughout Gijang and develop it as a tourism resource. The initiative was established to promote community unity, boost the tourism industry, and realize “Gijang, a Happy City Connected by Forests.”

About 150 people participated in the event, including County Mayor Jeong Jongbok, County Council Chair Park Hongbok, county council members, key organization leaders, children from the forest kindergarten class, and Gijang-gun employees, marking a powerful start to the “Million Azalea Blossoms Campaign” with the entire community.
On this day, a total of 0.1 hectares were planted, including 1,600 azalea shrubs and 2,000 Mancheopsancheoljjuk shrubs, laying the foundation for Ilgwangsan to become a beautiful azalea attraction. In addition, a special sharing event was held where 100 azalea shrubs, the county flower of Gijang-gun, were distributed to local residents.
In particular, this event was held as a meaningful occasion with young children, set against the backdrop of the Ilgwangsan Baramnuri-gil, which opened in December last year.
Eighty children from the Gijang-gun forest kindergarten class participated, experiencing tree planting and walking along the Baramnuri-gil with colorful pinwheels. The waves of red pinwheels, resembling azalea blossoms, lined the forest path, enhancing the spring atmosphere.
County Mayor Jeong Jongbok said, “It is very meaningful to take the first step of the Million Azalea Blossoms Campaign by planting the county flower azalea together with the residents today,” and added, “We will make Gijang a city full of the fragrance of azaleas, fostering community unity and the continuous development of Gijang-gun.”
Starting with this Arbor Day event, the county plans to continuously create flower paths themed on the county flower azalea and develop azalea attractions, transforming the entire area into “Gijang, a Premium Flower Path City” colored with azaleas.
