Promotional Activities at Gwangju's Pro Baseball Home Opening on the 22nd
'Sports City Gwangju' is launching a baseball-themed tourism package called 'Yagwang Trip', which links the '2025 Visit Gwangju Year' with the KIA Tigers' home games in professional baseball.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Government and Gwangju Tourism Organization announced on the 21st that they will launch the baseball-themed tourism package 'Yagwang Trip', which will be available for purchase through travel agencies throughout the year starting in April.
'Yagwang Trip' is a play on words combining 'Gwang (light)' from Gwangju, the City of Light, and 'Gwang (crazy)' for being enthusiastic about baseball. It means 'a trip for people who are crazy about baseball.'
This package is designed for those who want more than just watching baseball in Gwangju. On KIA Tigers' home game days, visitors can use their spare time before and after the game to explore Gwangju's top attractions such as the Dongmyeong-dong and Yangnim-dong areas, Jeonil Building 245, and the Mudeungsan area.
With this package, fans who have found it difficult to get tickets due to high demand will have easier access to them. Thanks to incentives from the Gwangju Tourism Organization, the price will also be more reasonable. The city expects that visitors coming for the games will discover the charms of Gwangju.
To boost excitement for the 'Visit Gwangju Year', the city has also introduced other tourism packages such as 'Railtel (Rail+Hotel)' and 'The Boy's Road' in addition to 'Yagwang Trip'. 'Railtel', in cooperation with Korea Railroad Corporation, offers up to 30% off train tickets and a 30,000 won discount on accommodation, and can be purchased via the Korail Talk app or the Korea Railroad Corporation website. 'The Boy's Road' is a historical tour unique to Gwangju, where visitors walk through May Gwangju, the setting of Han Kang's novel 'The Boy is Coming', the first Korean recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Starting with the '2025 Visit Gwangju Year Proclamation Ceremony' at Seoul Station on the 25th, the city will begin full-scale promotions and recruitment for these packages.
Lee Seungkyu, Director of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters, said, "Through the successful hosting of 'Visit Gwangju Year', we will connect the unique jewels of Gwangju such as sports, May Gwangju, and gastronomy," and added, "We will promote a variety of tourism products and events so that Gwangju can be reborn as a soaring treasure."
Meanwhile, on the 22nd, Gwangju City will conduct promotional activities for the successful hosting of '2025 Visit Gwangju Year' at the '2025 Professional Baseball (KBO) League KIA Tigers Home Opening Game'.
On this day, Mayor Kang Gijung will present the Gwangju cultural tourism character Omena doll to KIA Tigers manager Lee Bumho and NC Dinos manager Lee Hojun, encouraging them to deliver great games this season. In addition, the city will promote the 'Yagwang Trip', a sports-themed tourism package introduced this year, to spectators using the stadium's electronic display.
