Ordinance on Promotion and Support Proposed
Kim Jaeyong, a member of the Daegu Metropolitan Council (People Power Party, Buk-gu 3), announced on the 21st that the 'Daegu Metropolitan City Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of the Optical Industry,' which he proposed as the main sponsor at the 315th temporary session, has passed the review of the Economic and Environmental Committee, the standing committee.
Kim Jaeyong emphasized, "Daegu is the hub of Korea's eyewear industry, with 66.3% of the nation's optical businesses concentrated here. It is home to the Korea Optical Industry Agency, the Eyewear Surface Treatment Center, and hosts the Daegu International Optical Show (DIOPS), the only optical exhibition in Korea." He explained the background of the ordinance proposal by stating, "To secure new high-value-added growth engines through strengthened design and technological competitiveness, policy support from Daegu City is essential."
The ordinance includes key provisions such as establishing and implementing a master plan for the development of the optical industry, conducting surveys, supporting various projects like eyewear brand and design development and consulting, product testing and evaluation, and building cooperative systems.
Kim stated, "As changes in consumer patterns are also emerging in the optical industry, Daegu City should proactively expand domestic and overseas market channels with a swift response." He expressed his hopes, saying, "With Daegu City's active investment in innovation and research and development, I hope the optical industry will become a key pillar of the local economy."
