The Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation announced on the 21st that it has successfully concluded the 'Climate Action Challenge for Blue Skies,' the first-ever carbon neutrality campaign in the aviation sector in Korea, which was carried out in collaboration with the Climate Change Center and Asiana Airlines from December last year to February this year.
The campaign ran from December last year until last month, with a total of 500 participants joining the first event, 'Reducing My Aviation Carbon Footprint.' Participants entered their flight information to calculate their carbon emissions directly, and the corporation voluntarily donated carbon credits to offset 1 ton of carbon per person, totaling 500 tons.
Through the Climate Change Center’s 'Aora' platform, participants easily experienced the carbon offsetting process, gaining awareness of their potential to reduce carbon emissions personally and reflecting on the importance of climate action.
Carbon offset certificates were issued to the first 500 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Among them, 5 people received special souvenirs through a lottery, and 45 people were awarded gifticons and other prizes. Winners can check their status on the event page of Asiana Airlines’ website.
Song Byeong-eok, President of the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation, said, "This campaign is a pioneering example of public and private cooperation to achieve carbon neutrality in the aviation sector," adding, "We hope it will serve as an opportunity to spread a culture of practicing carbon neutrality in daily life."
