Damyang-gun, designated as a special district for humanities education and traditional gardens, announced on the 21st that it will hold the "6th Damyang-gun Beautiful Garden Contest" to enhance residents' interest in gardens and promote garden culture in daily life.

The Beautiful Garden Contest has been held annually since its first event in 2020, now reaching its sixth edition. The 4th contest winners, "Iredongsan" and "Mom's Garden," achieved excellent results in the Jeonnam Province Beautiful Garden Contest and have been used in promotional materials, making significant contributions to raising awareness of Damyang.

The contest is open to private and neighborhood gardens voluntarily created and maintained by individuals, such as those at private homes, cafes, and restaurants. Unlike previous years, gardens that have not won the Grand Prize or Excellence Award in past contests are eligible to participate again.

Applications are open until the 28th. Residents wishing to participate should submit an application form, including a description and photos of their garden, to their local township or town office. Through document and on-site evaluations, five gardens will be selected for the Grand Prize, two Excellence Awards, and two Encouragement Awards. Winners will receive a certificate of commendation from the county governor and a plaque. In addition, the two gardens awarded the Grand Prize and Excellence Award will have the opportunity to represent Damyang in the Jeonnam Province Beautiful Garden Contest.

Jung Kwangsun, acting county governor, stated, "Damyang is making great efforts to vitalize gardens, including the construction of the National Garden Culture Center and projects for the humanities education and traditional gardens special district. I hope the Beautiful Garden Contest will invigorate the garden industry and become an opportunity for residents to come together in creating a beautiful Damyang."
