Police Investigating Circumstances and Intent Behind Omission
In an election for the chairman of a Saemaeul Geumgo in Gwangju, more than 380 eligible voters were omitted from the voter list. The staff member who managed the election has been reported to the election commission, and the police have launched an investigation.
On the 21st, the Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that the Buk-gu Election Commission had reported employee B of Saemaeul Geumgo A for violating the Entrusted Election Act and has begun an investigation. B is accused of omitting more than 380 voters during the process of compiling the voter list ahead of the chairman election at Saemaeul Geumgo A.
Based on the membership list prepared by Saemaeul Geumgo A, the Buk-gu Election Commission finalized a voter list of 4,209 people, and the chairman election was held on the 5th according to this list. A total of 1,765 people (41.9% turnout) participated in the election, with candidate number 2 receiving 920 votes and winning the election by a margin of 78 votes over candidate number 1.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the case, including whether B intentionally omitted names from the list.
