Major Overhaul to Comprehensive Magazine Format Starting with Spring Issue
Expanded Page Size and Increased Number of Pages
The Ulsan Ulju County government newsletter, “Haengbok Ulju,” will be published in a completely renewed format.
Ulju County announced on the 21st that starting with the Spring 2025 issue, “Haengbok Ulju” will undergo a major revamp and be published as a comprehensive magazine.
This redesign aims to deliver a wider range of local news in a friendlier and more engaging manner, expand resident participation, and enhance the Ulju brand image.
The new newsletter has become even richer in content. The page size has been increased from the previous 16-cut to A4, and the number of pages has grown from 36 to 48.
With the larger format, the editorial design has become more dynamic. Balanced use of photos, illustrations, and infographics adds sophistication and elegance. In particular, the publication breaks away from the somewhat rigid style of administrative newsletters, adopting the colors and design sensibilities of a magazine to improve visual quality.
Unlike previous covers that featured landscape photos, the new cover will showcase artwork by local artists that reflects the spring season. Through the “Local Artist x Haengbok Ulju Collaboration Project,” a cover illustration will be created for each quarter, and the featured artist will be introduced in the “Our Neighborhood Artist” section.
Additionally, the mailing envelope will use the same design as the cover, delivering a differentiated image. The content has also been enriched, moving beyond administrative news to include a wider range of topics.
The newsletter now features in-depth “Special Features” on Ulju’s unique culture, tourism, and history, as well as a “County Government Special” summarizing key policies and issues, further enhancing the delivery of information. News briefs such as “Ulju News” have increased the amount of information, and the “Council News” section covering Ulju County Council activities has improved readability.
Sections like “Memories of Mashil” and “People of Ulju” provide a variety of on-site news and resident stories. The “Reader’s Column” includes not only submitted articles but also photos taken of the contributors themselves, with the intention of making the newsletter a cherished memory for residents.
Engagement opportunities such as subscription applications, quiz events, and reader feedback have been expanded, with QR codes included for easier access to subscriptions and event participation.
Alongside the offline newsletter revamp, Ulju County has also expanded its online publishing. A new e-Book version will allow the paper newsletter to be easily viewed on digital devices, and an audiobook will be produced for the visually impaired.
To overcome the limitations of a quarterly print newsletter and improve information accessibility, Ulju County will launch the monthly “Mobile Haengbok Ulju” starting this month.
“Mobile Haengbok Ulju” utilizes a responsive system, delivering optimized content across mobile, tablet, and PC devices. Residents can easily access essential county government information and cultural news each month with just a click on the relevant content.
An Ulju County official stated, “We will continue to create a newsletter that is even more beloved by Ulju residents by delivering useful information and community stories alongside the unique charm of Ulju’s culture, nature, and history. We will do our best to play a key role in enhancing the Ulju brand image with rich content and sophisticated design.”
