Up to 10 Counseling Sessions Now Available for Residents in Remote Areas
Expansion to Three Locations Including Jung-gu, Following Sasang-gu and Saha-gu
The Busan Game Overindulgence Counseling and Treatment Center, operated by Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, signed a business agreement with the Manimam Community Service Center (Jung-gu) on the 21st to improve counseling accessibility for residents in remote areas who have difficulty visiting the center. As a result, an additional “Our Neighborhood Counseling Room” will be operated.
With this expansion, the number of locations has increased from the previous two in Sasang-gu and Saha-gu to a total of three, including Jung-gu, allowing more citizens to receive specialized counseling for game overindulgence at private professional counseling institutions near their residences.
“Our Neighborhood Counseling Room” is a tailored counseling service for those who have difficulty visiting the Busan Game Overindulgence Counseling and Treatment Center located in Centum City. Utilizing excellent private professional counseling institutions, up to 10 counseling sessions per person are supported.
Since its pilot operation in 2017, “Our Neighborhood Counseling Room” expanded its counseling partner institutions in 2024 and has been operating at two locations: Together Social Service Support Center (Sasang-gu) and Our Child Development Psychological Counseling Center (Saha-gu). This year, with the addition of Jung-gu (Manimam Community Service Center), the program plans to provide a total of 700 professional counseling sessions to 70 individuals.
Kim Taeyeol, President of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, stated, “We have expanded the scale of support so that citizens can conveniently access counseling services near their homes,” and added, “We will continue our efforts to address the issue of game overindulgence.”
The Busan Game Overindulgence Counseling and Treatment Center has been operated by Busan Metropolitan City since 2015 as a specialized counseling institution for game overindulgence, providing comprehensive services from prevention to counseling and treatment. Licensed clinical psychologists and professional counselors are stationed at the center, and counseling services are free of charge. In addition, in cooperation with eight local treatment partner institutions, including Haeundae Baek Hospital and Bongsaeng Hospital, up to 1 million KRW (70%) of treatment costs are supported.
