The longevity congratulatory gift program provides one selected item out of seven options worth approximately 500,000 KRW (vacuum cleaner, dehumidifier, air purifier, bedding set, carbon heating mat, electric rice cooker, foot massager) to seniors aged 100 (born in 1925) who have resided in Gijang County for more than one year.
This initiative was launched to honor the dedication of seniors who have contributed to the community and their families, and to support their healthy aging in this era of an aging population.
Starting this year, Gijang County is implementing this program for the first time, and it will also be provided to seniors who are already over 100 years old (born before 1924).
On the 17th, County Governor Jung Jongbok visited the home of a 100-year-old resident in Jeonggwan-eup, personally delivering the longevity congratulatory gift and card, and expressed his wishes for the senior’s continued good health.
Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, said, “I am very pleased to be able to express my respect and gratitude to the seniors who have devoted themselves and lived diligently for 100 years through this program,” adding, “As modern society rapidly experiences aging and the rise of nuclear families, we will work even harder to foster family solidarity and promote respect for the elderly within the community.”
This year, there are 54 seniors aged 100 or older in Gijang County, with the oldest born in June 1914, and 29 of them are turning 100 this year. As the population aged 65 or older accounts for 19.6% of the total, marking the county’s entry into a super-aged society, Gijang County plans to focus on elderly welfare programs while pursuing social welfare policies that encompass all age groups.
