People Power Party Welcomes Han Deok-su Impeachment Trial Verdict on 24th as Late but Expects Dismissal

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated on the 21st that he "welcomes the delay" regarding the Constitutional Court's decision to set the impeachment trial date of Prime Minister Han Deok-su for the 24th.

At the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kwon said, "The impeachment of Prime Minister Han led by the Democratic Party of Korea was politically motivated from the start," adding, "Just as the impeachment motion initiated by the Democratic Party was unanimously rejected 8-0, this case will also naturally be dismissed."

He then criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "If Prime Minister Han returns, the Democratic Party will once again pressure the appointment of constitutional justice Ma Eun-hyuk and repeat the impeachment hostage drama," and argued, "The collective madness of impeachment addiction cannot be cured overnight."

Kwon also criticized the Democratic Party and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) as being in a 'political partnership.' He emphasized, "Whenever the Democratic Party legislated to support KCTU's wishes, such as the Yellow Envelope Act, the KCTU has waged political struggles opposing conservative governments on behalf of the Democratic Party," adding, "They have coordinated their steps even on the speed of the presidential impeachment."

Regarding KCTU's announcement of a general strike in response to the setting of the impeachment trial date for President Yoon Seok-yeol, Kwon pointed out, "KCTU has set the 26th, the sentencing date for the election law violation case of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, as the final deadline for their general strike struggle."

Earlier, on the previous day, KCTU declared that if the Constitutional Court does not finalize the impeachment trial date for President Yoon by the 26th of this month, they will hold a general strike on the 27th. Yang Kyung-soo, chairman of KCTU, said, "We can no longer wait," and warned, "If this chaos continues, our society will collapse irreversibly."
