Part of Jaseongdae Pier Utilized as Equipment Production Site
for Phase 2-6 Terminal Handling Equipment at Busan New Port West Container Terminal
Busan Port Authority (BPA) is set to begin the full-scale production and installation project for port facility equipment at the Phase 2-6 of the West Container Terminal at Busan New Port.

In July 2024, BPA signed contracts with HD Hyundai Samho for the supply of six container cranes and with HJ Heavy Industries for thirty-four transfer cranes to be deployed at the Phase 2-6 quay of the West Container Terminal at Busan New Port.
HD Hyundai Samho and HJ Heavy Industries are currently manufacturing the basic structures (blocks) of the equipment at their respective factories in Daebul, Jeonnam and Geoje, Gyeongnam. However, due to the large number of units being produced, their own factory sites were insufficient for the production.
To address this, BPA leased a portion of the idle space (approximately 160,000 square meters) at Jaseongdae Pier, where the container terminal function had ended, to the equipment manufacturers. This allowed for smoother production processes and provided a site for the blocks to be brought into the Phase 2-6 quay after fabrication.
Accordingly, each manufacturer is currently transporting the equipment blocks produced at their own factories to Jaseongdae Pier, with about 18% of the container cranes and approximately 44% of the transfer cranes having been moved so far.
Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "By utilizing part of the Jaseongdae Pier as an equipment production site, we can enhance the utility of idle piers and indirectly support the domestic equipment industry, achieving a win-win effect."
