The Daejeon Fire Department announced that starting on the 24th, it will implement the '119 Emergency Medical Smart System' to ensure the rapid transfer of patients to hospitals.
This system involves major regional emergency medical institutions such as Daejeon Sun Hospital, Yuseong Sun Hospital, Daejeon Korea Hospital, and Daecheong Hospital, and will be initially applied to patients classified as levels 3 to 5 according to the Korean Prehospital Triage and Acuity Scale (Pre-KTAS).
The '119 Emergency Medical Smart System' operates by having paramedics input the patient's information into a rescue terminal at the scene and request hospital selection. Each hospital then checks this information in real time and responds regarding their ability to accept the patient. Based on the hospitals' responses and the patient's severity, the paramedics will determine the optimal hospital for transfer.
The department plans to gradually expand the range of eligible patients as more medical institutions participate and the system becomes more stable.
Kang Daehoon, Chief of the Daejeon Fire Department, stated, "Through this system, we can dramatically reduce the time required to select a hospital for patient transfer by sharing real-time information with medical institutions. We expect this will help secure the golden hour for emergency patients and further improve the accessibility and efficiency of medical services."
