Established in 2008, Yongin Central Park had been pointed out as needing maintenance such as repairs to walking trails, stairs, pavement, parking lot improvements, and securing convenience facilities for visitors.

Accordingly, the city began full-scale renovation work in 2023. A total of 2.77 billion KRW was invested in the project. In particular, the city explained that by being selected for the 2022 'Han River Watershed Drinking Water Source Management Area Special Support Project,' it secured 1.38 billion KRW from the Han River Watershed Fund, which helped reduce the financial burden.

The city completely renovated the aging pavement by resurfacing it with masato soil and created a barefoot walking trail. They also planted 72 species of annual flowers to establish a seasonal flower garden where visitors can enjoy blooms throughout the year. The park now features an artificial waterfall and a ground fountain plaza, and rest areas and parking lots were also refurbished for visitor convenience.

Old facilities such as stairs and decorative walls were also renovated. In this process, unnecessary stairs were removed to make the park more accessible for the elderly and those with mobility challenges.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "With this facility improvement, I hope Yongin Central Park becomes a space that receives even greater love from citizens," adding, "We will continue to strive to better maintain the park in the future."

Meanwhile, the 'Han River Watershed Drinking Water Source Management Area Special Support Project' aims to improve the living environment of residents near the designated drinking water source management areas to preserve the water quality of Gyeongan Stream and Paldang Lake. The support target areas include eight locations in Cheoin-gu?Pogok-eup, Mohyeon-eup, Yangji-myeon, Jungang-dong, Yeokbuk-dong, Samga-dong, Yurim-dong, and Dongbu-dong?designated as the Paldang Drinking Water Source Quality Conservation Special Measures Area (207.3 km²) and waterfront zones (24.213 km²).
