Democratic Party Requests Police Protection for Lee Jaemyung Amid Assassination Threats
Na Kyungwon Claims "No Police Investigation Requested, Raises Suspicion of Staged Act"
Accused of Spreading False Information... Files Counterclaim for False Accusation
Amid receiving police protection due to terror threats against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, stated that if the Democratic Party does not request an investigation into the assassination threat report, she will file a counterclaim for false accusation. On the 20th, Na posted on social media (SNS), "If there is a report of an assassination risk, isn't it natural to reveal the informant and the source of the report, file a complaint, and request an investigation?" and made this claim.
Na said, "According to confirmation with the police from the office, there have been no complaints, accusations, or investigation requests related to the assassination threat against Lee Jae-myung so far. Isn't that why suspicion of a staged act arises?" She added, "Taking no action despite receiving an assassination report is tantamount to aiding the assassination. If the Democratic Party of Lee Jae-myung continues not to request an investigation, it is no different from admitting that the assassination threat is a staged act." She urged, "In that case, we have no choice but to file a counterclaim for false accusation," and called on "the Democratic Party of Lee Jae-myung to immediately request an investigation."
The Democratic Party announced on the 12th that a report related to an assassination plan against the leader had been received. At that time, spokesperson Hwang Jeong-a said, "Many lawmakers, including the leadership, reportedly received text messages stating that there is a plan to smuggle Russian-made pistols to assassinate the leader," and added, "There were many very detailed reports along with mentions that the information was received from the military."
Regarding this, Na claims that no investigation request was made to the police concerning the assassination and argues it is a 'staged act.' She stated, "The Democratic Party is on the verge of explosion internally due to Lee Jae-myung’s behavior of avoiding himself under the pretext of a 'terror threat' suspicion of a staged act, while sending only pro-Lee Jae-myung faction lawmakers, party officials, and aides to march 9 km daily and hold late-night outdoor rallies."
In response, the Democratic Party announced that it has filed a complaint with the police against Na for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, accusing her of spreading false information by dismissing the terror threat against the leader as a staged act.
The police have been providing personal protection measures for the leader since the 18th. To protect Lee Jae-myung, the police deployed close protection personnel and closely monitored the Democratic Party’s tent protest site near Gwanghwamun. Due to assassination rumors, Lee did not attend the on-site Supreme Council meeting and outdoor rally held in Gwanghwamun on the 14th but has resumed external activities wearing a bulletproof vest since the 19th.
