Supporting Youth Activities Embracing Disabled and Reclusive Youth... Nowon-gu, Donggeurami Activity Group 'Pum' Contest

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it is recruiting young people to participate in the Donggeurami Activity Group "Pum" to expand the youth public interest ecosystem and provide opportunities for youth in vulnerable conditions to engage in local activities.

The Donggeurami Activity Group "Pum" is an initiative planned by the Human Rights Respect and Climate Environment Division of the 5th Nowon Youth Policy Network, and it is the first project promoted through the newly introduced "Youth Autonomous Budget System" this year.

While existing youth public interest club projects were mainly operated focusing on non-disabled and highly active youth, "Pum" targets youth with disabilities and vulnerable conditions, aiming to expand their "cultural living area."

Accordingly, in addition to various activities for youth, the project features ▲consulting that considers human rights sensitivity and ▲opportunities for mutual learning through exchanges among selected teams during the project implementation process.

This recruitment project targets youth groups or organizations composed of three or more young people aged 19 to 39 who reside or have their living area in Nowon-gu. "Living area youth" refers to workers, students (including those on leave), and youth engaged in group activities with an address in Nowon-gu. Non-profit corporations, non-profit organizations, cooperatives, and other organizations based in Nowon-gu are also eligible to apply.

The support project is conducted under the theme "Youth-led Companionship with the Vulnerable." Specifically, applicants can choose to support one of the designated tasks such as ▲"Cultural City Nowon with Disabled Youth," which includes film discussions and cultural enjoyment programs, or ▲"Nowon with Vulnerable Youth," which includes climate crisis response public interest programs and healthy meal preparation programs.

Selected teams will receive project funds to carry out public interest activities, which can be used for instructor fees, cultural activity expenses, project operation costs, and more. In particular, teams that plan inclusive public interest activities with youth in vulnerable conditions such as disabilities, borderline intelligence, isolation/withdrawal, and family care will be given preference.

The application period is until March 25, and applications can be submitted via email. For more details, please refer to the notices on the Nowon-gu Office website or contact the Nowon Youth Policy Governance Center.

Last year, the district opened the "Nowon Youth Policy Governance Center," a youth participation specialized center, the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts. Through the Nowon Youth Policy Governance Center, the district plans to continuously strengthen the scale and expertise of the youth participation ecosystem to encourage active activities among local youth.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "We will spare no support to enable young people to lead public interest activities in Nowon-gu," and added, "We hope many youth and organizations will show interest and participate in public interest community activities for all, moving beyond the existing focus on non-disabled and highly active youth."
