'Visiting AI Classroom' Program Operated at 26 Elementary Schools
On the 20th, Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will promote the 'School-Linked Artificial Intelligence (AI) Coding Education Project' to nurture creative future talents. Introduced last year, this project aims to establish a sustainable digital talent development ecosystem in collaboration with local schools.

The city selects hub schools among elementary, middle, and high schools within its jurisdiction to provide customized AI coding education, operate AI and software (SW) clubs, and conduct capacity-building training for teachers.
For 26 elementary schools, a hands-on and inquiry-based 'Visiting AI Classroom' program is also operated. Especially this year, a metaverse-based education program linked with the regionally specialized textbook content 'Osan-i Joayo' and new practical courses in machine learning and robotics will be introduced.
For first-year middle school students, an 'AI Free Semester System' focusing on media art and game development will be conducted. In line with the implementation of the high school credit system, AI-related subjects will be offered, and support for joint education courses will be expanded. To this end, the city plans to support cluster and customized course operations and open a specialized subject in 'Big Data Analysis' to operate credit recognition courses.
In this project, 18 AI expert citizen instructors trained by the city will participate in elementary and middle school classes and the Osan AI Coding Edu Lab program.
Earlier, during the 8th term of the civil administration, Osan City set the goal of nurturing customized future talents and included AI coding education as a key policy. To this end, the Osan AI Coding Edu Lab was opened, and in December 2023, a business agreement was signed among Osan City, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Hwaseong Osan Office of Education to designate and foster 'Segyo AI Meister High School.' In October last year, a talent development cooperation body for Segyo AI Meister High School was also formed in collaboration with Osan University and Hanshin University.
Lee Kwon-jae, Mayor of Osan City, said, "We will continue to expand AI and SW education to nurture creative future talents equipped with the competencies required in the digital era," adding, "We will spare no effort in providing systematic educational support so that students can grow into creative problem solvers leading future society."
