Global bio healthcare company Moa Life Plus announced on the 20th that it has signed an exclusive supply contract for the functional cosmetic ingredient poly-gamma-glutamic acid with Swiss global company RAHN.

On the 19th, Yoon Sang-ho, CEO of Moa Life Plus, signed an exclusive supply contract for cosmetic poly-gamma-glutamic acid worth approximately 10 million USD over the next six years with Xavier Marguerettaz, CEO of RAHN, at RAHN’s headquarters in Switzerland.

Headquartered in Switzerland, RAHN was established in 1940 and operates subsidiaries in seven countries worldwide. Its main business is the sale of skincare/personal care ingredients and advanced industrial chemical materials in 55 countries globally.

A representative from RAHN stated, “Several global luxury brand companies such as Company C, Company L, and Company B are already launching and selling premium cosmetics containing Moa Life Plus’s patented poly-gamma-glutamic acid raw material. Recognizing the excellence of this ingredient, the development and launch of new premium cosmetics containing poly-gamma-glutamic acid have recently expanded. Confident in expanding the market worldwide, we have signed this contract.”

Since 2017, Moa Life Plus has collaborated with RAHN to develop special skincare formulations utilizing the unique characteristics of poly-gamma-glutamic acid. In 2023, clinical trials conducted by a German testing institution revealed that it has superior moisturizing power compared to hyaluronic acid. Additionally, Moa Life Plus signed a material transfer agreement with a European luxury brand to incorporate its cross-linked poly-gamma-glutamic acid. In February of this year, it obtained international-level natural cosmetic ingredient certification from COSMOS (COSmetic Organic Standard), a coalition of five certification bodies across four European countries, securing competitiveness in the natural/clean beauty market. Through such collaborations with global brands in Europe, the ingredient is being applied to actual global luxury brand products.

According to data researched by RAHN, the Asia-Pacific market is expected to lead the global market for cosmetic poly-gamma-glutamic acid due to increasing interest in sustainable natural materials, with Europe also predicted to expand its market at a high growth rate. Furthermore, the global cosmetic ingredient market size, as reported by Business Research Insights, was valued at 27.9 billion USD (approximately 40 trillion KRW) in 2023 and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.5% to reach 37.97 billion USD (approximately 55 trillion KRW) by 2032.

Yoon Sang-ho, CEO of Moa Life Plus, stated, “The excellent moisturizing and anti-aging effects of poly-gamma-glutamic acid have already been verified by numerous luxury brands and are increasingly being adopted for new product development as skincare and personal care cosmetic ingredients applied to key products. We expect sales growth exceeding the guaranteed sales by RAHN through this contract. We are also currently researching the hair care and scalp care efficacy of poly-gamma-glutamic acid and plan to gradually expand into the hair care market, which is expected to grow from 155 trillion KRW worldwide in 2024 to 300 trillion KRW by 2032.”
