On the 20th, Pohang City held a business agreement ceremony in the city hall’s main conference room, attended by Mayor Lee Kangdeok, Lim Jongyun, Chairman of the Future Medical Innovation Society, board members of the Society, and about 20 local bio and medical industry stakeholders.
Through this agreement, Pohang City and the Future Medical Innovation Society plan to closely cooperate on: ▲ developing and supporting training programs for physician-scientists ▲ supporting the establishment and operation of hospitals for regional healthcare innovation ▲ providing various consultations and building networks for the establishment of a medical school ▲ and hosting events such as expert seminars, symposiums, and forums.
The Future Medical Innovation Society, which signed the agreement with Pohang City, is a research society launched by medical experts aiming for innovation and advancement of the healthcare system.
It serves as a think tank supporting the establishment of future healthcare policies in Korea by medical policymakers and decision-makers. After holding its inaugural general meeting last February, it is set to officially establish itself as a legal entity in March.
The first chairman of the Society is Lim Jongyun, chairman of Coree Group and former chairman of the Korea Bio Association.
This agreement is expected to create synergy by combining Pohang City's efforts toward healthcare innovation with the expertise and network of the Future Medical Innovation Society, thereby advancing the city's physician-scientist training and regional healthcare innovation initiatives.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "I hope this agreement with the Future Medical Innovation Society will serve as an important starting point for the advancement of the bio industry and regional healthcare innovation," adding, "We will continue to achieve regional healthcare development through various cooperative relationships."
Last June, Pohang City was designated as a national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex, solidifying its position as a leading city in advanced biotechnology.
Building on this, the city is actively promoting the establishment of the POSTECH College of Medicine to foster physician-scientists through next-generation medical education that integrates engineering and medicine, and to become a hub city leading regional healthcare innovation.
Additionally, Pohang City is accelerating the creation of a medical cluster based on biomedical engineering capabilities by promoting the establishment of smart hospitals and clinical specialty hospitals. At the same time, it is fully committed to building an innovative medical ecosystem where clinical research and the training of advanced medical professionals are organically connected.
