Sixteen people, including Mayor Kim Dong-geun, the vice mayor, the director of the Welfare Bureau, the head of Nanum-ui Saem Home Care Support Service Center for the Elderly, the deputy director of Songsan Senior Welfare Center, and heads of related departments, attended the meeting to seek measures for ensuring a happy old age for elderly people living alone.
In response to the rapidly increasing elderly population, the city is promoting various welfare policies aimed at ▲strengthening economic independence ▲preventing social isolation ▲maintaining healthy living ▲providing meticulous elderly care. In particular, as specialized projects for elderly people living alone, the city operates ▲elderly customized care services ▲home care support services for the elderly ▲emergency safety assurance services ▲and projects to prevent solitary deaths among elderly living alone.
Additionally, as the population aged 65 and over is expected to exceed 20% of the total population by the end of 2025, entering a super-aged society, Uijeongbu City enacted the ‘Uijeongbu City Basic Ordinance on Elderly Welfare’ in February this year. Furthermore, the city plans to prepare in cooperation with the local community for the ‘Act on Integrated Support for Community Care such as Medical and Nursing Care’ (abbreviated as the Care Integration Support Act), which will be enforced in March 2026.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “As the entry into a super-aged society accelerates, policy efforts to protect and enhance the welfare of elderly people living alone are more important than ever,” and added, “Please continue to pay attention and strive to establish a meticulous care system so that the elderly can live safe and happy lives in the local community.”
