"If the Jeonse Fraud Act Stops, Victim Relief Will Also Cease"... Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Urges Extension of Period

Concerns Over "Inevitable Confusion" if Relief and Support Cease
Calls for Practical Relief for Jeonse Fraud Victims

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, has expressed concerns about a legal gap in protecting victims of Jeonse fraud and has urged the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to extend the validity period of the "Jeonse Fraud Victim Protection Act." The district pointed out that if legal support ends while victims' housing insecurity persists, practical relief for those affected could effectively come to a halt.

"If the Jeonse Fraud Act Stops, Victim Relief Will Also Cease"... Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Urges Extension of Period

On the 20th, Gwangsan-gu announced that after a comprehensive review of the current status of Jeonse fraud damage and the demands of victims, it has officially requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to extend the application period of the "Special Act on Support for Jeonse Fraud Victims and Housing Stability" (hereafter referred to as the Jeonse Fraud Victim Protection Act).

The Jeonse Fraud Victim Protection Act, which took effect in June 2023, provides relief tailored to different types of damage, including emergency welfare and legal support, suspension of credit information registration, priority purchase rights, local tax reductions, and emergency housing support. However, the law is scheduled to expire on May 31. Gwangsan-gu pointed out, "We are concerned about a gap in victim protection after the law ends."

Park Byungkyu, the head of the district, stated, "Jeonse fraud is not just a simple fraud but a crime that infringes on housing rights," adding, "We have strongly requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to extend the law and supplement the system." He continued, "Gwangsan-gu will continue to improve the system and provide support for practical relief for victims."

Meanwhile, Gwangsan-gu is also implementing preventive measures such as operating real estate safe transaction systems like "Jikyeojwo! Holmes" and mobile land information consultation offices.
