Baek Hyeryun Hit by Eggs... "Will File a Complaint"
Democratic Party Lawmakers Urge Yoon's Impeachment at Constitutional Court
On the 20th, an incident occurred where the floor representatives of the Democratic Party of Korea were hit with eggs while holding a press conference in front of the Constitutional Court, urging the swift impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol. The police stated that they would conduct a thorough investigation.
Democratic Party lawmaker Baek Hye-ryun was hit in the face by an egg thrown by a citizen during the "Press Conference Urging the Swift Impeachment of the Traitor Yoon Seok-yeol" held in front of the main gate of the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul, that morning. The raw egg burst and splattered onto a nearby lawmaker. One boiled egg hit her face and fell to the ground.
Lawmaker Baek said, "This is something that should never happen in a democratic society. I hope the perpetrator is found without fail," adding, "I will also personally take legal action."
It was reported that about 50 protesters gathered in front of the Constitutional Court that day. The police dispersed the protesters and began an investigation to track down the suspect who threw the eggs.
The police stated, "Considering the seriousness of the matter, we have formed a dedicated investigation team led by the head of the Criminal Division of the Jongno Police Station and have started the investigation," adding, "We plan to conduct a swift and strict investigation, including analyzing video footage and tracking the thrower."
On that day, Democratic Party lawmakers urged the impeachment of President Yoon in front of the Constitutional Court.
Park Seong-jun, the Democratic Party's senior floor deputy representative, said, "In this situation where everything, including the unconstitutionality of martial law, has been revealed during the Constitutional Court's hearing process, I once again urge a swift decision," adding, "I ask the constitutional justices to carry out the trial with all their heart, in the spirit with which our people established the Constitutional Court."
Lawmaker Baek said, "The Constitutional Court must consider the national loss and the damage to the people caused by the prolonged impeachment process," adding, "Sufficient time has passed to make a flawless decision based solely on evidence and legal principles according to the Constitution."
