POSCO Future M and GIST Join Hands to Foster Talent in Battery Materials

POSCO Future M has partnered with the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) to nurture talent in battery materials and secure technological leadership.

On the 19th, POSCO Future M announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GIST for the "Customized Research Professional Workforce Training in Secondary Battery Materials." The signing ceremony held at the GIST Gwangju campus was attended by Hong Young-jun, Head of POSCO Future M’s Technology Research Institute, and Lim Ki-chul, President of GIST, along with other representatives from both sides.

According to the agreement, starting from the second half of this year, GIST will operate a battery materials master’s and doctoral program called the "e-Battery Track." POSCO Future M will support tuition and scholarships during the degree program and will hire graduates as research and development and technical personnel for the company. During their studies, students will receive support to enhance their capabilities through internship programs and field-centered education at major business sites.

Director Hong said, “We are very pleased to collaborate with GIST, which is emerging as a world-class research-oriented university beyond Korea,” adding, “We will do our best to nurture global materials technology leaders and talents who contribute to humanity’s quality of life.”

President Lim stated, “Through close cooperation with POSCO Future M, we will accelerate the cultivation of core talents in the secondary battery materials field,” and added, “By systematically nurturing practical talents demanded by the industry, we expect to contribute not only to the local community but also to strengthening the future battery industry’s competitiveness at the national level.”

Since 2022, POSCO Future M has established industry-academic cooperation systems with leading domestic universities, starting with POSTECH, and including Yonsei University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Chonnam National University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST). Since the first e-Battery Track program agreement, eight talents have joined the company and are conducting research and development on cathode and anode materials technology.
