Held at Guro Lifelong Learning Center 2
at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month from March to June
Guro-gu holds a 'Monthly Lifelong Learning' program for residents on the second Wednesday of every month.
'Monthly Lifelong Learning' is a lifelong education program planned in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Humanities Community Chaekgojip, and it officially began operating in March of this year.
From March to June, a new special lecture on books and authors is held for two hours starting at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, at Guro Lifelong Learning Center 2, located on the 2nd floor of the new building of Guro-gu Office.
The first lecture on March 12 was given by Professor Kim Kyungjip under the theme "Revolution of Thought through Humanities: When Thoughts Change, Life Changes." The lecture explored the 21st-century revolution of thought that can converge into human values by fully exercising inquiry, inspiration, insight, intuition, and imagination.
On April 9, Professor and science writer Jeong Inkyung will explore humanities topics such as death, illness, love, and happiness through reading science books under the theme "Reading Science Books That Change My Life."
Following that, on May 14, Professor Choi Junyoung will introduce stories of people who have found hope in life by participating in humanities lectures, including homeless individuals and participants from local self-sufficiency centers, under the theme "People Finding Hope in Humanities."
The last lecture of the first half of the year, on June 11, will be given by Professor Cho Cheonho, an atmospheric scientist, titled "From Climate Crisis to Climate Recovery," reflecting on the idea that the future climate is not determined by nature but depends on the kind of world we create.
Any Guro-gu resident can participate free of charge, and online registration is available through the Guro Lifelong Learning Center website until before the lecture.
The capacity for each session is 40 people and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For more details, check the Guro Lifelong Learning Center or contact the Education Support Division of Guro-gu Office. A Guro-gu official said, "We will continue various programs to enrich the lives of residents through lifelong learning," and added, "We hope many interested residents will participate."
