Gyeonggi-do to Hold Completion Ceremony for 'Gyeonggi-do Damtteul' in Gyeonggi Convergence Town on the 22nd

Gyeonggi Province will hold a completion ceremony for the plaza ‘Gyeonggi-do Damtteul’ located in Gwanggyo New Town’s Gyeonggi Convergence Town in Suwon on the 22nd.

On this day, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that various residents, including the Gyeonggi Opportunity Press Corps, participants of the Youth and Young Adult Ladder Program, and participants of the Gyeonggi Job Match-Up Program, will join the ceremony, and representatives of resident organizations will participate in a handprinting ceremony at the completion event.

Prior to the ceremony, performances by the Gyeonggi young artists group ‘K-SORI’ and ‘Selwebras’ will also be held.

The name Gyeonggi-do Damtteul was selected through a naming contest and means ‘a space where residents gather and share stories.’ This place serves as the central axis connecting major institutions in Gyeonggi Convergence Town such as the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Provincial Council, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation, Gyeonggi Credit Guarantee Foundation, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and the Bank of Korea Gyeonggi Headquarters. It also functions as a main pedestrian passage connecting Gwanggyo Jungang Station and Gwanggyo Bus Transfer Center.

The plaza covers an area of 11,226 square meters, with the first floor above ground and the first basement floor connected by spectator seats. Within the plaza, 17 pedestrian mall shops have been established, and facilities for residents’ convenience, such as restaurants, are planned to open following a public selection process.

Gyeonggi-do Damtteul is expected to serve as a hub for communication and cooperation among residents, businesses, and experts from various fields, leading the innovation and development of Gyeonggi Province.

Kim Sang-su, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Autonomous Administration, said, "‘Gyeonggi-do Damtteul’ is not just a plaza but a new starting point toward the future of Gyeonggi Province," adding, "We will create a vibrant space based on the philosophy of communication and cooperation with residents to build a better Gyeonggi Province."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Convergence Town began construction in 2016, with the Gyeonggi Provincial Council moving in January 2022 and the Gyeonggi Provincial Government in May 2022. The Gyeonggi Library, currently under construction, is scheduled for completion next month, and with the establishment of Gyeonggi Garden by the end of December, Gyeonggi Convergence Town will be fully completed.
