Won Hee-ryong "If You Don't Want to Be a Doctor, Don't Do It... Government Must Follow Principles"

"Most Doctors Are Still Dedicated"

Former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong urged the government to respond, saying, "We can no longer be dragged along by residents and medical students who fiercely resist medical reform."

On the 19th, Won posted on social media (SNS) under the title "Medical disruption, it's time to put an end to it," stating, "It is right to follow the principles especially in difficult times. Only then will the problem eventually be resolved."

He referred to a statement made on the 17th by four professors from Seoul National University College of Medicine and Hospital, who directly criticized residents and medical students blocking their colleagues' return, saying, "It is time to clearly tell those who refuse the decision-making method for the physician supply system that guarantees the participation of the majority of the medical community, 'If you don't want to be a doctor, then don't be one.'"

Addressing the government, he emphasized, "The majority of doctors are still quietly caring for patients and dedicating themselves," adding, "The government and society must look at these people. We need to put our heads together to decide what and how to change and improve with those who remain."

He further argued, "Those who hold patients' lives hostage through incitement and threats should be given the freedom not to become doctors and the opportunity to live new lives," and stated, "Their vacancies can be filled by new people who are determined to properly fulfill the role of doctors and by professionals from other medical fields."
