Up 17% from February Last Year
Most Visitors from China in January, Koreans Lead in February
The number of Koreans who visited Japan last month was approximately 847,000, making them the largest group among all foreign visitors.
According to the statistics on foreign visitors to Japan released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on the 19th, the number of foreign visitors to Japan last month was 3,258,000, an increase of 16.9% compared to the same month last year. For February, which is relatively an off-season, this was the highest number of visitors ever recorded, maintaining over 3 million visitors for five consecutive months.
By country and region of origin, Koreans were the most numerous with 847,000 visitors, an increase of 3.5%. They were followed by China with 723,000 visitors, Taiwan with 507,000, Hong Kong with 196,000, and the United States with 192,000.
In January, due to the influence of the Lunar New Year holidays, China saw a significant increase and ranked first, but last month, Korean tourists were again the largest group.
JNTO stated, "Despite the weak Korean won, the increase in flight services contributed to the record number of visitors in February."
