Joo Gwang-deok: "Namyangju to Establish Foundation for Diverse Policies as It Advances Toward Becoming a Special City of 1 Million"
Gyeonggi Namyangju City (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) received approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 19th to establish the Namyangju City Administration Research Institute Foundation.
Originally, city administration research institutes could only be established in metropolitan cities with populations exceeding 1 million. However, with the amendment of the Local Research Institute Act in October 2022, the criteria were relaxed, allowing cities with populations over 500,000 to establish such institutes. Accordingly, Namyangju City adopted this as a pledge in the 8th local election term and has been promoting the establishment of the research institute.
Following the establishment of the Namyangju City Administration Research Institute, it is expected to have positive effects in various areas such as △solving local issues in Namyangju City △establishing long-term urban visions △deriving creative policies △and enhancing administrative efficiency.
Additionally, the Namyangju City Administration Research Institute is expected to serve as a ‘policy think tank’ that improves administrative efficiency through customized research tailored to Namyangju, including local industrial base, regulatory utilization, and Dasan Academy development, as well as systematic management of research service projects and database construction.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok emphasized, “The Namyangju City Administration Research Institute will play a central role in policy development reflecting Namyangju City’s identity and future vision,” adding, “Through this, Namyangju will leap forward as a special city with a population of 1 million and establish a foundation to promote various policies that improve the quality of life for its citizens.”
