Gwangjin-gu to Host 2025 Environmental Art Contest

Contest Open for Elementary and Middle School Students in Writing and Drawing
30 Works on ‘2050 Carbon Neutral Gwangjin’ Theme to Be Selected for Environmental Conservation

Gwangjin District Office (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is hosting the ‘2025 Gwangjin Environmental Works Contest’ to select outstanding literary and artistic works on the theme of the environment.

Held in celebration of the 30th World Environment Day, the contest aims to raise awareness of the importance of the environment among children and adolescents and to spread a culture of eco-friendly practices and empathy. Last year, 105 works were submitted, and a total of 28 winners were awarded: 7 grand prize winners, 9 excellence awardees, and 12 encouragement awardees.

The contest theme is ‘2050 Carbon Neutral Gwangjin: Developing through Communication.’ Participants are free to express topics related to the environment, such as ▲the reality of the climate crisis and environmental pollution ▲the value of urban natural environments and the necessity of environmental conservation ▲experiences of carbon neutrality in daily life ▲and the future image of Gwangjin District transformed through eco-friendly practices.

The contest accepts submissions in two categories: writing and drawing. Writing entries must be prose or poetry within two A4 pages. Drawing entries have no restrictions on medium, including watercolor and crayon, and should be drawn directly on size 8 paper for lower-grade elementary students and size 4 paper for higher grades and above.

The contest is open to elementary and middle school students in the district, as well as adolescents of the same age group. After expert evaluation, a total of 30 winners will be selected: 12 for writing and 18 for drawing. The awards ceremony will be held on June 7 at the ‘2025 Gwangjin Environmental Festival’ commemorative event at Seoul Children’s Grand Park. Along with the presentation of certificates, an exhibition of the works will also be held.

The submission deadline is April 4, and the results will be announced on April 23 on the Gwangjin District Office website. Writing submissions should be sent via email, while drawing submissions can be delivered in person or by mail. Each participant may submit only one work. Works that have won other contests, duplicates, or plagiarized pieces will not be selected.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho of Gwangjin District said, “We prepared this literary contest to remind students, the future leaders, of the importance of environmental protection and to spread a culture of green living practices.” He added, “We hope they will fully express their precious and warm feelings of love for our Earth.”
