Hong Jun-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, targeted Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, calling him "the so-called traitor who has led the disruption of the national order by carrying out 29 impeachments and suspending the duties of state institutions."

He continued, "Now that it has become difficult to approve the impeachment of President Yoon (Yoon Seok-yeol), that person is forcing the appointment of Ma Eun-hyuk, a former anti-establishment legal professional, as a Constitutional Court justice," and criticized, "He is even talking about arresting Acting Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok for dereliction of duty."

Regarding the 'assassination threat' against Lee, he said, "Recently, he has been making a show of being threatened with assassination by mentioning a Russian-made pistol," and claimed, "It's a 'Trump imitation show.'"

He then said, "Busan, stop trembling and just go to prison. The safest place for you is precisely prison."

Meanwhile, Lee, who had refrained from public appearances after the terror threat, attended the Democratic Party's on-site Supreme Council meeting wearing a bulletproof vest on the same day. The police began protective measures for Lee's safety from the previous day. Earlier, the Democratic Party requested police protection for Lee, stating, "Many lawmakers received text messages containing plans to smuggle a Russian-made pistol to assassinate Lee."
