Kim Sukjun, a candidate running in the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education by-election, announced his sixth policy package titled "Busan Education in Harmony and Cooperation with the Local Community" on the 19th.
Kim stated, "It has long been a concern that population decline and the crisis of regional extinction have become major issues for Busan," and expressed his commitment by saying, "We will utilize the resources and capabilities of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education to prevent the outflow of young people, and work together with Busan City and each district and county to develop measures to increase the birth rate."
To this end, the first goal is to "contribute to urban regeneration by restructuring educational infrastructure," by promoting the creation of a pilot urban regeneration complex on the former site of Busan Nam High School and establishing an AI education institution.
The plan is to utilize the site of "Busan Nam High School" in Yeongdo-gu, which will be completely relocated to Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu by 2026, to create educational and start-up spaces for young people, providing an opportunity to overcome the severe aging phenomenon in Yeongdo-gu and other old downtown areas.
In addition, an "AI education institution" will be established to nurture young people as experts in the field of AI, a core technology of future industries. The project will be promoted by sharing resources and roles through cooperation between the Office of Education and local governments.
Secondly, with the goal of "creating open educational spaces with residents," the candidate will promote the integration of school facilities in areas lacking living infrastructure, expand the opening of school auditoriums and playgrounds, and establish small forest libraries in areas with insufficient libraries.
For basic local governments struggling due to a lack of space to establish convenience facilities for residents, the "integration of school facilities" will be promoted by establishing necessary facilities on school grounds. A system will also be built to allow residents who wish to use school auditoriums and playgrounds to do so easily. Additionally, "small forest libraries" that residents can use with their children will be established in cooperation with local governments.
Thirdly, with the goal of "From the Sea to the Future, Specialized Education in Busan," the candidate will promote the establishment of marine experience institutions and the strengthening of marine ecological education, as well as the establishment of the "Busan Startup School" for young entrepreneurs.
Kim stated, "Even inland offices of education such as those in Seoul, Daegu, and North Chungcheong Province operate marine training centers for students," and announced plans to "re-promote the establishment of a marine training center so that students can enjoy the sea, which is a source of pride for Busan citizens, and explore future possibilities in the sea."
He also plans to establish a "youth startup school" that can systematically provide students who wish to start a business in their field of expertise with information and skills related to entrepreneurship.
Kim has concluded his policy campaign, which was conducted over a total of six sessions.
