"This Way Everyone Will Die"... 'Hulk' Stands Against AI Regulation Relaxation

"Opposition to Easing AI Regulations"
Letter Sent to the White House
Concerns Over Infringement of Creators' Rights

As AI-related companies, including OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, urged the Donald Trump administration to ease regulations, famous Hollywood actors expressed their opposition.

On the 18th (local time), US CBS and other media reported that more than 420 industry figures, including Hollywood actors and directors, sent a letter to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, urging the maintenance of existing copyright laws applied to the AI field. The letter is known to have been signed by many famous actors, including Mark Ruffalo, the star of Marvel Studios' "Hulk," Cate Blanchett, Ben Stiller, and Cynthia Erivo.

In the letter, they stated, "We firmly believe that America's global AI leadership should not come at the expense of essential creative industries," and pointed out, "AI companies are not protecting copyrights for movies, TV series, artworks, and other materials used to train AI models."

The media explained that this stance from industry professionals was a reaction against OpenAI and Google’s request to the White House for easing AI-related copyright regulations. Google recently argued in a letter to the White House that "if exceptions are made to copyright law, publicly available materials can be used for AI training without significantly affecting copyright holders' rights." They expect the Trump administration to relax related regulations to promote AI technology development.

On the other hand, Hollywood criticized generative AI for mass-producing similar content by using existing artworks. Furthermore, they voiced concerns that AI threatens creators' rights and even their livelihoods.
