Seosan City to Provide Up to 300,000 KRW for Health Checkups for Residents Near Odor-Control Areas

Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 19th that it plans to provide health checkup support for citizens aged 60 and older who live in areas surrounding odor management zones, the first initiative of its kind in the country.

This pilot project will be operated from April this year until 2026, offering up to 300,000 KRW per person for lung and liver cancer health checkups.

The eligible areas include Hwagog-ri, Daejuk-ri, Dokgot-ri, Daero-ri, Oji-ri, and Gieun-ri in Daesan-eup, which are designated as regions surrounding odor management zones.

Eligible recipients are citizens aged 60 or older who have had their resident registration in these areas since 1990 and have lived there for at least 15 years.

This year, the city will support health checkup costs for those born in odd-numbered years, and next year, for those born in even-numbered years.

Those wishing to receive support for health checkup costs must first apply for eligibility verification and then undergo a checkup at a hospital where such examinations are available.

After the checkup, applicants should submit documents such as the invoice or receipt proving the checkup costs to the Environmental Safety Team of the Climate, Environment, and Air Division on the second floor of the Daesan-eup Administrative Welfare Center.

Mayor Lee Wanseop stated, "We launched this project so that citizens exposed to odors for a long period can detect diseases early and receive treatment," adding, "We will continue to develop and implement various policies with the health and safety of our citizens as our top priority."
