Expansion of the Roundabout Flowerbed Responsibility Management System to 15 Locations
Dedicated Management by Professional Companies
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 19th that it will implement the ‘Roundabout Flowerbed Responsibility Management System’ targeting 15 roundabouts within the jurisdiction.
The Roundabout Flowerbed Responsibility Management project is carried out by having landscaping and gardening companies selected through a landscaping design contest take charge of managing each roundabout. Last year, Yangpyeong-gun implemented the responsibility management project for 9 roundabouts, resulting in improved scenery and budget savings through perennial planting. Accordingly, this year, the number of target sites has been expanded to 15 roundabouts.
In particular, among last year’s project sites, the Maryongsamgeori and Maryong IC intersections near the Yongmunsan tourist area, which have a high floating population, increased local residents’ satisfaction with designs reflecting the constructors’ individuality, playing an important role in enhancing the clean and beautiful image of Yangpyeong. Additionally, the flowerbed at the southern end intersection of Yanggeundaegyo Bridge (in front of Namyangpyeong IC) applied the ‘Topflora’ technique for a four-season planting flower tower, creating a distinctive flowerbed and receiving positive evaluations for its experimental design.
Jeon Jin-seon, Governor of Yangpyeong-gun, stated, “This project is expected to improve the urban landscape by creating distinctive flowerbeds instead of the existing uniform roundabout management method, providing various attractions to residents and tourists. We will continue to implement this project to create a clean and beautiful natural environment and unique urban landscape, doing our best to make Yangpyeong a place people want to visit.”
Meanwhile, the target sites for this project include 15 locations such as the roundabout at the entrance to Dumulmeori for visitors and the venue for the 14th Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo in 2026. Spring flowerbeds will be created by May, and seasonal flower replacement, mowing and weeding, and pest control will be continuously carried out until November. Details regarding the landscaping and contractor selection for the roundabout flowerbeds can be found in the announcement section on the Yangpyeong-gun official website.
