Concert Planning Company Announces Legal Action
JG Star, a concert planning company involved in a dispute with singer Lim Chang-jung over performances, has announced its intention to take legal action.
On the 19th, JG Star released a statement saying, "Since signing the first business agreement with Lim Chang-jung in 2020, we have cooperated based on trust, but we have suffered damages due to contract breaches," adding, "After reports about the guarantee fee dispute appeared in the media, seeing his response denying the facts as 'groundless' led us to consider responses including legal measures."
JG Star stated that they signed a nationwide tour concert contract in March 2020 and prepaid a guarantee fee of 1.48 billion KRW over six installments until November 2021, but the concerts were postponed after Lim Chang-jung violated quarantine rules and tested positive for COVID-19. They further claimed, "We did not file for damages and focused on resolving the situation, bearing all losses including venue cancellation penalties and a one-year venue ban." Lim Chang-jung also expressed gratitude for this.
The concert planning company explained that in 2022, they held a performance called "Multiverse," but Lim Chang-jung expressed his intention to break the verbal agreement and proceed with the performance with new investors.
JG Star claimed that although they signed a remake album contract with Lim Chang-jung in 2023, after Lim Chang-jung became embroiled in a stock manipulation controversy in April 2024, they drafted a settlement agreement regarding losses related to the performance and remake album. They explained that a total loss of 1.12904 billion KRW occurred through this.
They added, "After Lim Chang-jung's promise to repay, the profits we have identified so far include about 2.1 billion KRW from copyright ownership and about 1.4 billion KRW from concert guarantees, totaling approximately 3.5 billion KRW," and warned, "We have initiated legal procedures to enforce debt fulfillment." They also stated, "Lim Chang-jung expressed willingness to meet and discuss in person but did not show up at the agreed location, and we have been unable to contact him since."
