Paju City Provides Medical Expense Support for AIDS-Infected Undocumented Foreigners

Up to 8 Million KRW in Annual Medical Expense Support Per Person

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 19th that it is raising awareness about the importance of AIDS prevention by providing guidance on AIDS testing and counseling to undocumented foreigners, and is encouraging continuous interest by supporting medical expenses for AIDS (HIV) patients.

This project supports medical care for foreigners who have been diagnosed with AIDS (HIV) after testing but are not eligible for health insurance benefits. Its purpose is to help foreigners avoid health crises during their stay in Korea and to enable them to lead more stable lives.

Medical expenses are supported up to a maximum of 8 million KRW per person annually, covering items such as consultation fees, testing fees, and medication costs necessary for treatment.

Paju City plans to continue promoting this program to reduce the financial burden on undocumented AIDS (HIV) infected individuals, increase the number of infected persons receiving medical expense support, and foster a healthier society through ongoing interest and assistance.

Lee Han-sang, Director of the Paju Public Health Center, stated, "This medical expense support policy will be a great help to foreign AIDS (HIV) infected individuals who cannot receive health insurance. We hope that undocumented foreign infected individuals in the medical blind spots will receive timely and appropriate treatment."
