Tuberculosis Prevention Campaign
to Be Held at Jinan Gowon Market on the 24th
Jinan-gun, Jeonbuk will designate the period from the 20th to the 29th as Tuberculosis Prevention Week in observance of the 15th Tuberculosis Prevention Day.
According to the county on the 19th, tuberculosis is a second-class notifiable infectious disease and has the highest mortality rate among notifiable diseases in Korea. It is transmitted through the air when tuberculosis bacteria are released by coughing or sneezing.
If you have a cough lasting more than 2 weeks, get tested for tuberculosis. Poster provided by Jinan County.
Prevention guidelines for tuberculosis include: ▲ maintaining a healthy body through regular exercise and balanced nutrition ▲ visiting a medical institution for examination if cough or phlegm persists for more than two weeks ▲ undergoing latent tuberculosis infection and tuberculosis tests after contact with a tuberculosis patient, regardless of symptoms ▲ strictly practicing proper cough etiquette.
Although the symptoms are similar to those of a cold, if a cough lasts for more than two weeks, it is recommended to visit a public health center for a tuberculosis test.
In particular, elderly individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for tuberculosis, so it is strongly recommended that they undergo a tuberculosis screening once a year, regardless of symptoms.
Accordingly, the county will visit the Happy Daycare Center on the 21st in cooperation with the Jeonbuk Branch of the Korean National Tuberculosis Association to conduct a mobile tuberculosis screening and educational session for seniors aged 65 and older, who account for the largest proportion of tuberculosis patients.
On the 24th, in celebration of the 15th Tuberculosis Prevention Day, a promotional campaign will be held at Jinan Gowon Market to raise awareness of tuberculosis prevention guidelines and the importance of screening.
A county official stated, "Tuberculosis is still a disease that occurs consistently. In particular, as the incidence rate among seniors aged 65 and older continues to rise, we hope for thorough prevention and timely screening."
